Canada Issues Update on Efforts to Help Citizens Leave Middle East Amid Israel-Iran Tensions

Ottawa, June 27, 2025 — As tensions remain high between Israel and Iran, the Canadian government says it is continuing efforts to help Canadians safely leave the region, while urging all citizens to remain cautious and register their presence with authorities.

Global Affairs Canada confirmed it has been working closely with allies and partners in the Middle East to monitor the situation and assist Canadian citizens who wish to depart. Officials noted that commercial flights remain available in many areas, though the situation could change rapidly given the volatile security environment.

“Canada’s priority is the safety and security of Canadians abroad,” Global Affairs Canada said in a statement. “We are providing consular services and advice to those affected and are prepared to assist further should conditions deteriorate.”

The federal government has not yet announced any formal evacuation mission but advised Canadians to consider leaving while commercial options are open. Canadian embassies and consulates in the region remain operational and are fielding inquiries from citizens seeking guidance.

The advisory comes amid increased hostilities and fears of broader conflict after a series of missile strikes and military escalations between Israel and Iran in recent weeks. Regional tensions have led to heightened security alerts and concerns over the safety of foreign nationals.

As of now, there are no reports of Canadian casualties or injuries related to the conflict, officials said.

Canadians travelling or residing in the Middle East are urged to check travel advisories regularly, stay in contact with family members, and ensure they are registered with the Registration of Canadians Abroad service to receive timely updates and instructions.
