Canada Invites United Arab Emirates to G7 Summit, Carney Also Attending COP30

Ottawa, June 12, 2025: Canada has officially extended an invitation to the United Arab Emirates to participate in the upcoming 51st G7 Leaders’ Summit, scheduled for June 15–17 in Kananaskis, Alberta. The Canadian Press, cited by CTV News and CP24, reported the invitation though Abu Dhabi has not yet confirmed attendance by President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan .

This invitation comes as part of Canada’s broader push to widen the G7’s outreach to include influential non-member states. The guest list already includes leaders from Australia, Brazil, India, Indonesia, Mexico, South Korea, South Africa, and Ukraine all of whom have confirmed their attendance  .

Moreover, Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney will travel to Belém, Brazil, this November to participate in COP30 an upcoming United Nations climate conference scheduled from November 10 to 21, 2025  . Carney’s role at COP30 underlines Canada’s commitment to global climate engagement beyond its G7 duties.

Relations between Canada and the UAE have maintained a positive trajectory since establishing diplomatic ties in 1974. Citizens from both nations currently enjoy visa-free travel, reflecting strong bilateral cooperation  .

The 51st G7 Summit in Kananaskis marks the second time Canada has hosted the event, following the Charlevoix G8 Summit in 2002. Guest invitations to non-member states, including the UAE, reinforce the summit’s goal of addressing global challenges through inclusive dialogue on security, energy, economic growth, and climate policy  .

Canada’s dual participation in both G7 and COP30 demonstrates a layered diplomatic strategy, leveraging multilateral platforms to advance its global influence on trade, environmental policy, and international cooperation.
