Calgary Police Investigate Early Morning Shooting in Redstone Neighborhood

Calgary (Rajeev Sharma): The Calgary Police Service (CPS) is presently investigating an early morning shooting in the Redstone neighborhood of northeast Calgary. Multiple gunshots were reported in the early hours of Thursday. According to CPS, officers responded to the 100 block of Red Sky Green N.E. at approximately 3:04 a.m. following reports of gunfire. Preliminary investigation indicates that several shots were fired at a parked vehicle, fortunately resulting in no reported injuries. Police have confirmed that there is no ongoing risk to public safety.
Throughout the morning, officers remained at the scene, gathering evidence and speaking with potential witnesses. Investigators have yet to determine whether the shooting was targeted or random, and no arrests have been made at this time. “There is no immediate threat to the public,” stated a CPS spokesperson. “We are still gathering details and will provide further updates as the investigation progresses.” Residents in the area have expressed concern over the incident, with some reporting multiple loud bangs during the night.
Two young witnesses claim to have seen three individuals opening fire early in the morning and have provided statements to the police. Sources suggest that the gunfire was targeted at a house owner who is a promoter of shows, with the motive potentially being extortion, although this has not been confirmed. Residents are also concerned that after Brampton and Surrey, Calgary is also facing the same problem of open firings at homes.
