Buxar (Gurpreet Singh): A celebratory wedding ceremony turned into a scene of horror in Bihar’s Buxar district on Tuesday night when an 18-year-old bride was shot by her alleged lover. The incident occurred within the jurisdiction of the Chausa police station while the bride, identified as Aarti Kumari, was standing on the stage alongside her groom for the wedding rituals.
According to Chausa Additional Station House Officer (SHO) Chandan Kumar, the shooting appears to be the result of a failed or one-sided love affair. Aarti was shot in the stomach at close range while the wedding party was in full swing. The sudden violence caused immediate chaos, and the accused managed to flee the scene under the cover of the ensuing panic.
Family members and guests quickly rushed the critically injured bride to the Sadar Hospital in Buxar. Due to the severity of the gunshot wound, doctors subsequently referred her to a medical facility in Varanasi for advanced life-saving treatment. Her condition remains listed as critical.
In her statement to the police, Aarti identified the shooter as her neighbour, Deenbandhu. Her family alleged that Deenbandhu had been obsessed with her and had previously voiced his opposition to the marriage. The groom and his family had travelled from Sulemanpur village in the Ballia district of Uttar Pradesh for the ceremony. Police have launched multiple raids across the region to apprehend the suspect.
