Blaming Punjab Farmers for Delhi Pollution is ‘Ridiculous’: Piyush Goyal

New Delhi (National Times): Union Minister Piyush Goyal has dismissed claims that Punjab farmers are responsible for Delhi’s air pollution, calling the argument “ridiculous.” He urged people to use logic before making such accusations.

Speaking at an event hosted by the IMC Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Goyal, who holds the Commerce and Industry portfolio, said, “Don’t believe anyone who says Punjab farmers are the reason behind Delhi’s pollution. Just apply your mind… How does pollution travel 500 km, pass through the high rises of Gurugram, and directly reach my home in New Delhi?”

Construction & Vehicular Emissions Main Pollutants

While clarifying that he was not in favor of stubble burning, Goyal emphasized that construction activities and vehicle emissions were the primary contributors to air pollution in urban areas. He stressed the need for adopting precast construction methods and switching to electric mobility to tackle pollution.

“Rather than blaming others, we should evaluate our own role in pollution. Can we consider electric vehicles for personal and industrial use?” he asked industry leaders.

Goyal further stated that electric mobility and precast construction were not just environmentally beneficial but also offered cost advantages, making them viable alternatives for businesses.

As pollution levels continue to be a pressing issue, the minister’s remarks highlight the need for practical solutions rather than shifting blame to the farming community.
