New Delhi (National Times): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has crossed the halfway majority mark of 36 seats in the Delhi Assembly elections, as per the latest trends from the Election Commission. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) follows closely, leading on over 25 seats in what has turned into a neck-and-neck battle for the national capital.
Meanwhile, the Congress continues to struggle, failing to take the lead in any of Delhi’s 70 Assembly constituencies, according to current projections.
The counting of votes, which began at 8 AM, initially showed the BJP taking an early lead. However, the AAP has since mounted a strong fight, narrowing the gap in an intense electoral showdown.
Delhi’s 70 Assembly seats went to polls in a single phase on Wednesday, recording a voter turnout of 60.54%.
The AAP, in power since 2015, is eyeing a third consecutive term and its fourth overall victory in Delhi. For the BJP, the stakes are equally high as it seeks to regain control of the city after a gap of 27 years.
The Congress, which once dominated Delhi politics with Sheila Dikshit’s 15-year tenure as Chief Minister, is still struggling to reclaim its lost ground.
In previous Assembly elections, AAP had nearly swept the polls, securing 67 seats in 2015 and 62 seats in 2020, leaving the BJP limited to just three and eight seats, respectively. The Congress failed to win a single seat in either election.
With trends still emerging, the final results will determine whether AAP can retain its stronghold or if the BJP will stage a comeback in the national capital.
