Chandigarh, March 17, 2025 – Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia faced an intense eight-hour interrogation today by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Punjab Police in connection with a 2021 drug case. The questioning took place at the Patiala Police Lines, and the SIT has summoned Majithia for further questioning on Tuesday.
Supreme Court’s Directive Leads to Interrogation
The Supreme Court had ordered Majithia to cooperate with the investigation, directing him to appear before the SIT on March 17, 2025, at 11 am at their headquarters in Patiala. This directive came as part of ongoing efforts to investigate his alleged involvement in drug-related activities.
Suspicious Financial Transactions Under Investigation
The SIT’s investigation has reportedly uncovered suspicious financial transactions involving certain firms, raising further questions about Majithia’s role in the case. SIT member Varun Sharma confirmed that these transactions are under close scrutiny, and efforts are being made to gather concrete evidence.
Background of the Case
Majithia, a former Punjab minister and a senior SAD leader, was booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in December 2021. He was granted bail by the Punjab and Haryana High Court on August 10, 2022. The case has been politically sensitive, drawing widespread attention across Punjab.
Punjab Government’s Zero-Tolerance Stance
The Punjab government has maintained a firm stance on drug-related crimes. The SIT has reaffirmed its commitment to bringing all accused to justice and ensuring that those involved in drug networks are held accountable.
Majithia’s next round of questioning is expected to shed more light on the case as investigators dig deeper into the financial trail and possible connections to larger drug operations.
