Bibi Paramjit Kaur Khalra Declines to Contest Elections, Reaffirms Commitment to Justice Mission

Tarn Taran (National Times): In a significant announcement, the Khalra Mission Organisation declared that Bibi Paramjit Kaur Khalra, wife of legendary human rights activist Shaheed Jaswant Singh Khalra, will not contest any elections in the future, including from the Tarn Taran assembly seat.

In a statement issued after a key internal meeting, the organization emphasized that Bibi Khalra’s earlier decision to contest from Khadoor Sahib was never rooted in political ambition but was a symbolic stand against injustice, made during extraordinary circumstances. “It was an act of conscience, not a profession,” the statement underlined.

Speaking on the decision, Bibi Paramjit Kaur Khalra said, “Contesting elections is not a profession for me. I did so earlier only under special circumstances. Our mission remains the same — to raise a voice against oppression and injustice.”

The Khalra Mission thanked the Sikh Panth and the people of Punjab for their unwavering support over the years and reiterated its ongoing commitment to preserving the legacy of Shaheed Jaswant Singh Khalra, who laid down his life exposing enforced disappearances of Sikhs during Punjab’s dark chapter in the 1980s and 1990s.

The organization assured that despite stepping away from electoral politics, its work in human rights advocacy and justice will continue with renewed vigor. “We remain steadfast in our humble contribution against tyranny and suppression,” the statement concluded.

The announcement was met with widespread respect across social and political circles, many hailing the decision as one rooted in principle over power.
