Chandigarh (Balwinder Singh): Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Wednesday inaugurated a series of modern aviation facilities worth nearly ₹31 crore at the Chaudhary Bansi Lal Civil Aerodrome in Bhiwani, marking a significant step towards strengthening regional air connectivity and aviation infrastructure in the state.
The newly inaugurated facilities include a state-of-the-art aircraft hangar, an Air Traffic Control (ATC) building, a security post and a modern canteen. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Member of Parliament Dharambir Singh, Bhiwani MLA Ghanshyam Sarraf, Bawani Khera MLA Kapoor Singh Valmiki and several other dignitaries.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said the development of aviation infrastructure in Bhiwani represents more than just the construction of new facilities. According to him, the project is part of the state’s broader vision to expand air connectivity, create new opportunities and support economic growth across Haryana.
Describing Bhiwani as the land of brave soldiers, sportspersons and saints, Saini said the city is witnessing a new phase of development that will contribute to the growth of the aviation sector in the region.
The Chief Minister highlighted the rapid expansion of India’s civil aviation sector under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, noting that the UDAN scheme has played a crucial role in connecting smaller cities with air services and making air travel more accessible to ordinary citizens.
He said Haryana is actively working to improve regional air connectivity and establish itself as a major aviation hub in northern India. As part of these efforts, the Hisar Airport is being developed at a fast pace, with flight services already operational to Delhi, Ayodhya, Chandigarh and Jaipur. Services connecting Hisar with Jammu and Ahmedabad are also expected to begin soon.
According to Saini, the upgraded infrastructure at the Bhiwani aerodrome will support safer aircraft operations, enhance pilot training activities and facilitate the expansion of aviation services. The project is also expected to create new employment and skill development opportunities for young people interested in careers in the aviation industry.
The Chief Minister said strong transport infrastructure is essential for attracting investment, promoting industrial development and accelerating regional economic growth. He added that the strengthening of Bhiwani’s aviation facilities will provide a major boost to the development of western Haryana.
Emphasising the government’s integrated development approach, Saini said Haryana is simultaneously expanding aviation, road, rail and digital connectivity to maintain its position among the fastest-growing states in the country.
During his address, the Chief Minister also highlighted several welfare initiatives undertaken by the state government. He said Haryana has opened medical colleges in 17 districts to address shortages in healthcare professionals and has fulfilled 63 of the 217 commitments made before the Assembly elections within the first one-and-a-half years of governance.
He noted that all crops in Haryana are being procured at Minimum Support Price (MSP) and that free dialysis facilities have benefited nearly two lakh kidney patients across the state. Additionally, the government has provided subsidised LPG cylinders at ₹500 to around 15 lakh households belonging to families with annual incomes up to ₹1.80 lakh.
Saini further stated that the government has expanded its proposed financial assistance scheme for women, increasing the eligibility threshold from families earning ₹1 lakh annually to those earning up to ₹1.80 lakh per year. The state budget has earmarked ₹6,500 crore for the initiative.
Trainee Pilots Honoured
As part of the programme, the Chief Minister honoured trainee pilots who successfully completed 200 hours of flying. He congratulated them on their achievement and awarded badges in recognition of their training milestones. Officials informed that 120 trainee pilots have completed their training at the Bhiwani aerodrome so far.
The Chief Minister also directed officials to ensure the timely completion of ongoing projects and continue efforts to expand the civil aviation sector in Haryana.
Luxury Gyrocopter Demonstrated
A demonstration of a modern two-seater luxury gyrocopter was also held during the event. The Chief Minister inspected the aircraft and interacted with experts to learn about its features and technological capabilities.
The gyrocopter can be used for personal air travel, aerial tourism, surveillance operations, land surveys, photography, videography and pilot training, making it a versatile addition to the growing aviation ecosystem.
