Amritsar (National Times): In a significant step towards social justice and economic relief, the Bhagwant Mann-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab has waived off loans worth ₹68 crore belonging to 4,727 Dalit families. This major announcement marks a milestone in the state government’s commitment to uplift marginalized communities.
A formal function to commemorate this initiative is being held today at Guru Nanak Dev University in Amritsar, where Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann will personally meet and interact with the beneficiaries. The event is expected to draw a large number of attendees, including government officials, community leaders, and members of the public.
The waiver, amounting to Rs 68 crore, is seen as a transformative relief for thousands of families who had been trapped in cycles of poverty due to high-interest loans and lack of access to formal credit systems. The government believes this intervention will give these families a fresh start and allow them to redirect their energies towards education, employment, and entrepreneurship.
