Bathinda, December 15, 2025: A local court in Bathinda on Monday allowed an application seeking exemption from personal appearance filed on behalf of Bollywood actor and BJP Member of Parliament Kangana Ranaut in a defamation case linked to her remarks during the farmers’ protest. After granting the relief, the court listed the matter for further hearing on January 5, 2026.
The case was initiated by Bebe Mahinder Kaur, a resident of Bahadurgarh Jandian village in Bathinda district. The complaint pertains to certain social media comments allegedly posted by Ranaut at the height of the farmers’ agitation against the now-repealed central farm laws. The complainant has alleged that the actor-politician made defamatory statements insinuating that women were paid to participate in the protests.
Advocate Raghubir Singh Behniwal, counsel for the complainant, said the court accepted the plea moved by Ranaut’s legal team seeking exemption from her personal appearance. He added that the complainant intends to present witnesses on the next date of hearing, along with arguments related to the exemption application and other aspects of the case.
The matter continues to remain under judicial scrutiny and will come up for hearing again on January 5, 2026.
