National Times Bureau :- A tragic incident struck Barnala for the third consecutive day as a roof collapse claimed the life of a 33-year-old man, Lakhbir Singh, and left four of his family members injured. The family was asleep when their house’s weakened roof, damaged by continuous rainfall, suddenly gave way.
Locals immediately rushed to rescue the family, but Lakhbir Singh succumbed to his injuries on the spot. The injured — his wife, two daughters, and a son — were taken to the Civil Hospital, from where they were later referred to Faridkot for advanced treatment.
Residents expressed anger over the incident, stating that the deceased, a daily wage laborer, had repeatedly applied for government assistance to rebuild his dilapidated house under various housing schemes, but his applications were continually rejected. They alleged that timely support from the authorities could have prevented this tragedy.
The grieving family has demanded proper medical care for the injured and financial assistance of ₹50 lakh, citing that Lakhbir Singh was the sole breadwinner.
Police confirmed the incident and stated that further action would follow after the investigation.
