Bangkok Nightclub Inferno Claims 27 Lives; Survivors Recall Panic as Smoke Engulfed Venue

Bangkok (Rajeev Sharma): A late-night fire at a crowded entertainment venue in Bangkok turned into a major tragedy after at least 27 people lost their lives and several others sustained injuries, Thai officials confirmed on Monday. Authorities have launched a detailed investigation to determine what sparked the blaze.

The incident occurred shortly after midnight at the Na Ladprao pub, where customers had gathered for live music and weekend celebrations. Witnesses said the atmosphere changed within seconds as smoke began filling the venue, triggering panic among those inside.

According to preliminary findings, the fire may have originated near the electrical system close to the performance area. A musician performing at the venue reportedly noticed smoke before electricity suddenly failed. Moments later, a loud blast was heard, followed by flames spreading rapidly through the building.

Emergency services responded swiftly after receiving distress calls. Firefighters managed to contain the blaze within about 30 minutes, but by then significant damage had already been caused. Rescue teams entered the smoke-filled premises and recovered several victims trapped inside, particularly from enclosed sections of the building.

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, who visited the site, expressed condolences to the families of those who died and assured that the cause of the incident would be thoroughly examined. He said the injured had been admitted to hospitals across the city and were receiving treatment.

Investigators are now inspecting the building’s electrical installations, fire safety equipment and emergency evacuation arrangements. Officials have not ruled out possible violations of safety norms and said legal action would follow if negligence is established.

Photographs from inside the venue revealed extensive destruction, with scorched interiors, collapsed fixtures and furniture reduced to ashes. Authorities have also begun the process of identifying the victims and informing their families.

The disaster has once again raised questions about fire safety compliance at public entertainment venues in Thailand. Similar incidents over the years have prompted repeated calls for stricter enforcement of building and emergency regulations.

As forensic teams continue their examination, officials have appealed to the public to avoid speculation until the investigation is completed. The tragedy has sent shockwaves across Thailand, with messages of condolence pouring in for the victims and their families.
