Earthquake Uncovers Hidden Fault in Remote Yukon Mountain Region

Earthquake Uncovers Hidden Fault in Remote Yukon Mountain Region

Yukon (Rajeev Sharma): Researchers surveying a remote mountain area in southwest Yukon are examining signs of avalanches and landslides after a powerful earthquake struck near the Alaska–Yukon border last month. The magnitude 7.0 quake, which occurred on Dec. 6, prompted scientists from the Yukon Geological Survey to launch an aerial reconnaissance using helicopters to assess the earthquake’s surface impacts. Saskatchewan Judge Sends Impaired Bus Driver to Jail After Endangering Dozens of Children

Saskatoon (Rajeev Sharma): A Saskatchewan judge has sentenced a charter bus driver to jail after ruling that he posed an extreme and unacceptable risk by driving while impaired with more than 50 children on board. The provincial court judge said the driver’s decision to mix alcohol with prescription pain medication while operating a bus full of schoolchildren was “breathtakingly reckless,” adding that a community-based sentence would not adequately reflect the seriousness of the offence or protect public safety. The incident occurred in March 2025, when the 71-year-old driver was transporting 52 students and two teachers back to Saskatoon from a…

Municipal crews are responding by rationing salt, increasing the use of sand, or applying blended materials to stretch existing stockpiles. In parts of southwestern Ontario, rainfall and snowfall totals during November and December significantly exceeded seasonal averages. Municipal officials say the…

Temporary Residents Face Uncertain Future as Canada Tightens Immigration Pathways

Ottawa (Rajeev Sharma): After spending several years building lives in Canadian communities, many temporary residents are now facing the prospect of leaving the country as immigration policies tighten and job instability grows. After graduating, he secured employment in the automotive sector and applied for permanent residence through a provincial immigration pathway. That pathway collapsed when successive layoffs—linked to economic pressures and tariffs—caused him to lose the employment required to remain…
