Dispur (Assam), December 6, 2025: The investigation into the death of Assam’s celebrated cultural figure Zubeen Garg is in its final phase, with the charge sheet expected to be filed on December 12, a senior police officer announced on Saturday. Garg died on September 19 while swimming in the sea in Singapore, a tragedy that sparked an outpouring of grief across Assam and among his global fan base.

Special Director General of Police (CID) Munna Prasad Gupta, who is leading the Special Investigation Team (SIT), told reporters that the inquiry has progressed significantly. He said the team is now preparing the final legal documentation. “The investigation is almost complete. The details will be given in the charge sheet,” Gupta said.

He confirmed that seven individuals have been arrested in connection with the case and over 300 witnesses have been questioned so far. Gupta declined to elaborate on the findings, saying all remaining information will be made public only after the filing of the charge sheet.
