Assam CM Calls Zubeen Garg’s Death ‘Clear Case of Murder,’ Says Motive Will Shock State

Gangtok, November 25, 2025: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma told the Assembly on Tuesday that singer Zubeen Garg’s death in Singapore on September 19 was not an accident but a “plain and simple murder.” His statement marks the strongest official stand yet on the case, which has triggered widespread public concern.

Sarma said police registered an FIR the day after the incident and later added the murder charge under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. He noted that one individual is directly accused of killing the popular singer, while several others allegedly assisted in the crime.

The Chief Minister assured legislators that investigators are preparing a comprehensive chargesheet expected by December. He added that the probe will expand to examine possible negligence, criminal breach of trust, and other related offences.

Sarma also hinted at a deeper conspiracy, saying the motive behind the killing would “shock the people of Assam,” though he declined to reveal further details as the investigation remains active.
