New Delhi, May 20, 2025: Former Delhi Chief Minister and AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal launched the party’s student wing, ASAP (Association of Students for Alternative Politics), on May 20, 2025, in New Delhi. The launch event, held at the Constitution Club of India, marks Kejriwal’s return to public mobilisation — this time with a sharp focus on the country’s student population.
Though no longer in office, Kejriwal continues to shape AAP’s ideological direction. Speaking at the launch, he said the country’s persistent issues stem from 75 years of mainstream politics. He described ASAP as a platform for young people to challenge that legacy through development-focused, corruption-free political engagement. “We want students to not just protest but participate in shaping governance,” he said.
Several senior AAP leaders joined the event, including Manish Sisodia, Saurabh Bharadwaj, Anurag Dhanda, Gurmeet Singh, Anmol Gagan Mann, Awadh Ojha, and Janarail Singh. Their presence affirmed AAP’s commitment to expanding its base through student leadership.
ASAP plans to engage five lakh student volunteers from 50,000 colleges across India, aiming to create a mass youth movement rooted in transparency, education reform, and inclusive governance. AAP also plans to contest the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections in September — a strategic entry into campus politics.
The launch comes amid internal shifts within AAP, including the exit of 15 councillors who recently floated a new party. For Kejriwal and his party, ASAP represents both a fresh start and a call to action — placing students at the center of a new political alternative.
