New Delhi (National Times): Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has officially conceded defeat in the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections, as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) surges ahead to form the next government.
Kejriwal, who lost the New Delhi seat to BJP’s Parvesh Verma, acknowledged the results, saying, “I humbly accept the people’s mandate and congratulate the BJP for their victory. I hope they fulfill the expectations of the people. Over the years, we worked extensively in education, healthcare, and infrastructure. Now, as the opposition, we will continue to support the people and serve them socially. I also want to thank all AAP workers for their dedication and hard work.”
BJP’s Strong Performance Ends AAP’s Dominance
As per the latest data from the Election Commission, Verma defeated Kejriwal by a margin of 4,089 votes in the New Delhi constituency. Congress candidate Sandeep Dikshit secured 4,568 votes but failed to make an impact in the race.
Overall, the BJP has clinched eight seats and is leading in 40 others out of Delhi’s 70 constituencies. AAP, struggling to retain power, has won nine seats and is leading in 13 more. Congress, which once ruled the capital for 15 years, has again failed to secure a lead in any seat. With the majority mark set at 36, the BJP appears set to reclaim Delhi after 27 years.
A Hard-Fought Battle in the Capital
The New Delhi constituency saw a heated contest between three prominent candidates—AAP’s Arvind Kejriwal, BJP’s Parvesh Verma, and Congress’ Sandeep Dikshit. The voter turnout in this key seat was recorded at 56.41 percent.
With counting still underway, the results will decide whether AAP can maintain its political presence in Delhi or if the BJP marks its return to power in the capital after nearly three decades.
