New Delhi, May 11, 2025 — In response to ceasefire and airspace violations during the night of May 10–11, the Indian Army has been granted full operational authority under the ongoing Operation Sindoor, a strategic framework overseeing security measures along the Western Borders.
According to an official statement by the Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADG PI), Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Upendra Dwivedi conducted a detailed review of the border situation with senior Army Commanders deployed in the Western sector. The review followed closely after the DGMO-level talks held on May 10, which had laid down terms for maintaining peace and stability.
In light of the violations, the COAS has authorized Army Commanders to initiate immediate counteraction in the kinetic domain, allowing them to respond actively to any breach of the recent understanding without awaiting further approvals. The Indian Army clarified that this delegation of power is part of the standing directives under Operation Sindoor, not a new operation launch.
The move marks a significant tactical shift, ensuring that ground commanders can act swiftly and decisively to deter any further escalation along sensitive border areas.
While the nature of the violations has not been elaborated on, the development signals a firm military posture and enhanced readiness on the part of India’s armed forces to protect its territorial integrity.
