Jammu: In a dramatic operation that lasted nearly 10 hours, the Indian Army’s Aviation Corps rescued 27 security personnel who were stranded due to flash floods in the border belt of Jammu district on Thursday.
The incident took place in the Jourian area of Akhnoor after floodwaters from the swollen Chenab River inundated a camp. With rising waters cutting off access, the Army’s White Knight Corps launched an immediate rescue mission.
Officials said helicopters were deployed under extremely challenging conditions, carrying out 17 sorties to airlift the trapped personnel to safety. Despite adverse weather and poor visibility, pilots and ground teams worked in coordination to ensure all personnel were evacuated.
Authorities praised the Aviation Corps for their swift response and perseverance, which helped avert a potential tragedy amid worsening flood conditions in the region.
