Amritsar, June 7, 2025 – In a major crackdown on illegal arms smuggling in Punjab, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) Border Range Amritsar has arrested three men and recovered six high-end foreign-made pistols reportedly smuggled from across the border. The arrested individuals were allegedly working for jailed smuggling kingpin Jugraj Singh, currently lodged at Sri Goindwal Sahib Central Jail.
Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said the arrests were made as part of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s ongoing push to make Punjab safer. The accused Rajan of Bhagtanwala Gate, Paramjit Singh of Ghannupur, and Dinesh Kumar of Naraingarh were caught in an intelligence-led operation and were found with a consignment of arms.
Among the weapons recovered were two Austrian-made Glock 19X pistols, two Italian-made .30 bore pistols, a Star Mark pistol, and a Beretta pistol, also made in Italy. Police also seized two vehicles a Yamaha R15 bike and a Honda Grania scooter both without number plates and believed to have been used for arms delivery.
DGP Yadav revealed that Jugraj Singh, facing multiple NDPS and Arms Act charges, orchestrated the operation from jail through his legal assistant’s aide Rajan. He is suspected to be in active contact with Pakistani traffickers while in custody. The arms were likely intended for criminal networks within Punjab.
Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Nilabh Kishore said the arrests followed actionable intelligence and were executed near Khalsa College in Amritsar. The ANTF will now seek a production warrant to question Jugraj Singh and trace others involved in the arms supply chain. Further arrests are anticipated.
An FIR No. 152 dated June 6, 2025, under Section 25 of the Arms Act, has been registered at ANTF Police Station, SAS Nagar.
