AMRITSAR (Gurpreet Singh): Panic swept through several private schools in Amritsar on Friday after multiple institutions reported receiving bomb threat emails. Students were evacuated as a precaution, and parents were asked to collect their children immediately.
Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that suspicious emails had been sent to schools both within the city and in nearby rural areas. “We have deployed Gazetted Officers at each affected school, and thorough anti-sabotage inspections are being carried out to ensure the safety of everyone on campus,” he said.
The Cyber Police Station is actively investigating the source of the emails to track down those responsible for sending the threats.
The alerts caused significant anxiety among parents, many of whom rushed to school premises to take their children home. Authorities maintained a strong security presence outside schools and urged calm while the investigations were ongoing.
No explosives or harmful devices have been found so far. Police have also appealed to the public to avoid circulating unverified information on social media, emphasizing that security measures are in place and the situation is being closely monitored.
The incident has prompted school administrations and local authorities to review emergency protocols, with a focus on ensuring student safety and preparedness for any potential threats in the future.
