Amritsar (Gurpreet Singh): In a significant operation against illegal arms trafficking, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police have uncovered a cross-border smuggling racket, arresting three individuals and seizing six advanced pistols from their possession.
According to preliminary findings, the accused were allegedly in touch with Pakistan-based handlers through social media platforms. These connections were reportedly used to coordinate the movement of illegal weapons across the border, which were later distributed to criminal elements in different parts of Punjab.
Police officials stated that the recovered weapons were part of a larger supply chain, indicating the presence of an organised network operating with both domestic and foreign links. The accused are believed to have acted as intermediaries, collecting consignments and passing them on to local operatives.
A case has been registered at the Cantonment Police Station in Amritsar under relevant sections of the Arms Act. Authorities confirmed that further investigation is ongoing to trace both the origin of the weapons and the wider distribution network.
Officials added that efforts are underway to identify additional suspects and dismantle the entire syndicate. The Punjab Police reiterated its commitment to cracking down on illegal arms trade and maintaining law and order in the state, stressing a zero-tolerance approach towards organised crime and activities linked to national security threats.
