Chandigarh (National Times): Punjab police are gearing up to bring back Amritpal Singh from Assam, with the National Security Act (NSA) against him scheduled to expire on April 23. He is presently incarcerated in Dibrugarh Jail.
A team from Amritsar Rural Police has traveled to Assam to secure Amritpal’s transit remand. Upon his return, he is expected to be presented before a local court in Ajnala, where a case has already been registered against him.
Sources say the NSA will not be extended, making way for fresh proceedings under an FIR related to the Ajnala police station incident. Previously, nine of Amritpal’s aides, also held under the NSA, were brought back to Punjab once the law’s provisions against them ended.
