Kokrajhar (Assam), March 16, 2025 – Union Home Minister Amit Shah reaffirmed the Central government’s commitment to fully implementing the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) Peace Agreement by 2027. Speaking at the 57th Annual Conference of the All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) at Bodofa Fwthar, Dotma in Assam’s Kokrajhar, Shah highlighted the significant progress made since the accord was signed in 2020 and promised that all terms would be fulfilled within the next two years.
Peace and Progress Since the BTR Accord
Shah noted that despite initial skepticism from the Congress party, nearly 82% of the agreement’s terms have already been implemented. He credited the Assam government and ABSU for their role in fostering peace and development in Bodoland. Shah stated that once the agreement is fully executed, Bodoland will experience lasting peace.
Removal of AFSPA and Economic Growth
As part of the agreement, the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) was removed from the entire Bodoland region on April 1, 2022. Shah highlighted the region’s growing economic strength, mentioning that Kokrajhar’s mushrooms have become part of Delhi’s cuisine under the One District One Product scheme. He also encouraged young athletes from Bodoland to prepare for the 2036 Olympics in Ahmedabad.
Recognition and Cultural Revival
Paying tribute to former ABSU President Upendranath Brahma, Shah announced that a major road in Delhi will be named after him in a ceremony scheduled for April 1. Shah praised ABSU’s role in securing the BTR Peace Accord and acknowledged the sacrifices of 5,000 martyrs who died for peace in Bodoland.
Educational and Cultural Developments
Shah highlighted the inclusion of the Bodo language in the curriculum up to Class 12, ensuring its preservation and recognition as a scheduled language. He credited ABSU for promoting education, empowerment, and development within the region.

The conference, attended by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Chief Pramod Boro, focused on fostering academic excellence, leadership, and cultural identity. The four-day event included discussions, competitions, and a celebration of ABSU’s contributions to Bodoland’s growth.
