Guwahati, March 14, 2025 – Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Jorhat on Friday evening, beginning a three-day visit to the northeastern states of Assam and Mizoram, officials said.
Shah was welcomed at Jorhat airport by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, his cabinet colleagues, and senior state officials. “We warmly welcome Hon’ble Union Minister @AmitShah to the sacred land of Assam at the Jorhat airport,” Sarma posted on X.
After his arrival, Shah traveled to Dergaon in Golaghat district, about 26 km away, where he will spend the night at the Lachit Barphukan Police Academy. On Saturday morning, Shah will inaugurate the police academy’s first phase, which was built at a cost of ₹167.4 crore. He will also lay the foundation stone for the second phase of a ₹425.48-crore housing project at the academy.
Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Chief Minister Sarma will also attend the ceremony.
Shah will then head to Mizoram to attend a function marking the shifting of Assam Rifles from the center of Aizawl to Zokhawsang, about 15 km from the state capital.
On Sunday, Shah will visit Dotma in Kokrajhar district to address the 57th annual conference of the All Bodo Students Union (ABSU), a key player in the historic Bodo Peace Accord signed five years ago. Chief Minister Sarma, Bodoland Territorial Region chief Pramod Boro, and senior leaders will also attend the event.
Shah will return to Guwahati in the afternoon to review the progress of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) with the chief ministers of the eight northeastern states. Each state will present updates on BNS implementation.
Shah will leave for New Delhi on Sunday night.
