Chandigarh, September 28, 2025 (National Times Bureau): On the concluding day of the Punjab Assembly session, Cabinet Minister Aman Arora strongly defended the state government’s response to this year’s devastating floods while targeting opposition leaders for their criticism.
Participating in the debate on the “Punjab Rehabilitation” resolution, Arora said the scale of destruction caused by the floods was unlike anything Punjab had witnessed before. He pointed out that the government had already cleared drains and canals in advance and had stationed ministers in flood-prone areas before the waters arrived. “Our ministers were on the ground even in regions where only limited flooding occurred,” he said.
Arora praised the support shown by citizens during the crisis, describing it as overwhelming. Taking a swipe at Congress leader Partap Singh Bajwa’s comment about “posing on bamboo scaffolds,” he remarked, “We did not climb bamboo structures for photo opportunities. We are leaders who prefer to work on the ground.”
Highlighting the government’s focus on desilting, Arora said discussions had been ongoing for weeks and claimed that the AAP administration had spent more on desilting works than previous Congress governments. He added that while the Beas river had caused severe destruction, the state made every possible effort to minimise damage.
