All Cow Shelters Must Install Biogas Plants: Shyam Singh Rana

Chandigarh, August 5 – Haryana’s Animal Husbandry and Dairy Minister Shyam Singh Rana has directed officials to ensure the installation of biogas plants in all cow shelters across the state. He also called for exploring the potential of manufacturing paint from cow dung and developing various dairy products from milk. According to him, these initiatives will help cow shelters become financially self-reliant while providing the public with high-quality dairy products.

Rana issued these directives while chairing a meeting of the Animal Husbandry and Dairy Department officials in Chandigarh.

Among those present were the department’s Commissioner and Secretary Vijay Dahiya and Director General Dr. Prem Singh, along with other senior officials.

The minister further instructed officials to coordinate with scientists from the National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI) in Karnal to adopt advanced technologies for improving cattle breeds and milk production. He emphasized maximizing the utility of NDRI’s expertise in the state’s dairy sector.

Rana also reviewed the departmental announcements made in the budget presented by the Finance Minister in March 2025. He urged timely implementation of all initiatives, including interest-free loans up to ₹1 lakh for women to set up dairies, the establishment of a sex-sorting lab for indigenous bull semen, construction of cow sheds under the Cow Service Commission, establishment of cow sanctuaries, and the provision of modern diagnostic equipment and medicines at veterinary institutions.

He also ordered the renovation or reconstruction of veterinary buildings in poor condition wherever needed.

Review of Haryana State Warehousing Corporation Announcements

Following the departmental meeting, Rana also reviewed announcements related to the Haryana State Warehousing Corporation. He directed the officials to expedite the construction of new warehouses with a capacity of 3 lakh metric tonnes. He suggested that wherever possible, additional land should be acquired near warehouses to set up crop procurement centers. This would help reduce transport costs and ease congestion at grain markets.

The minister reviewed progress on the proposed 1 lakh metric tonne capacity modern technology silo and the warehouse planned near Hisar Airport. He instructed that all projects be completed within the set timeframe.

Dr. Shaleen, Managing Director of the Haryana State Warehousing Corporation Limited, was also present at the meeting.
