Calgary (National Times): For over a century, Alberta has been known as the land of opportunity, a place where people come to build a better future for themselves and their families. Today, more than five million people call the province home, with many drawn by the promise that if they work hard, they too can benefit from the Alberta Advantage. That’s why Alberta’s government continues to work tirelessly to ensure there are pathways to prosperity for future generations so they can continue to call Alberta the best place to live, work and raise a family.
“Investing in our young people today means investing in a better future for our province. Through partnerships with community organizations across the province, we are making it easier for young Albertans to find a job, bring home a paycheque, and build a stronger, better future for themselves,” said Jason Nixon, Minister of Assisted Living and Social Services.
Alberta’s government is investing more than $17 million in employment supports for youth, including those at risk or facing other barriers, so that more young Albertans can find a job and earn a paycheque. This investment will expand in-person and virtual employment services for youth, such as job coaching, resume development, interview practice, job search strategies, workshops and job placements. By investing in these valuable youth employment supports, Alberta’s government and its partners are giving the next generation hope for the future while building the workforce needed to support and grow Alberta’s economy.
“Alberta’s economy depends on a strong, skilled workforce – and that starts with our youth. This investment ensures more young Albertans can get their foot in the door, gain experience and power the future of our province,” said Joseph Schow, Minister of Jobs, Economy, Trade and Immigration.
Alberta’s government partners with local employment service providers to deliver these employment supports, ensuring that young Albertans have access to tools and resources tailored to their needs. There are numerous programs available that are specifically designed to address the unique challenges faced by at-risk youth and those facing other barriers to employment, providing them with the necessary tools to successfully enter and thrive in the workforce. This investment is anticipated to help even more young Albertans than in previous years, with Alberta Assisted Living and Social Services helping 8,646 youth access employment supports over the past year alone.
“The safety and stability that can come from gainful employment will help ensure that every young Albertan is able to have the opportunity to build the foundation of their future success. By investing in employment supports, we are preserving the Alberta Advantage and ensuring that every young Albertan can participate and contribute to their communities,” said Searle Turton, Minister of Children and Family Services.
“With the Alberta Government’s support, Prospect’s Youth Programs will help over 900 youth in Alberta complete high school and transition into trades, post-secondary, or employment. Without support these youth would face serious risk. This investment helps young Albertans build stability, independence, and a strong foundation for success in adult life,” said Kevin McNichol, CEO, Prospect Human Services Society.
