Alberta Minister Heads to London to Explore Nuclear Energy Opportunities

Edmonton (Rajeev Sharma): Alberta’s Minister of Affordability and Utilities, Nathan Neudorf, will travel to London later this month to participate in the World Nuclear Symposium, as the province continues to examine nuclear energy as a potential solution for meeting growing electricity demand.

The visit, scheduled from August 27 to September 11, will allow Minister Neudorf to engage with international leaders from jurisdictions where nuclear industries are already established. His agenda includes promoting Alberta’s energy sector to global partners and exploring the role nuclear power could play in the province’s long-term energy mix.

In addition to the symposium, Neudorf will meet with utility executives, energy experts, and investors to discuss opportunities for collaboration and to exchange knowledge on emerging technologies. He will also take part in Canada-UK Nuclear Day 2025, hosted by the Canada-UK Chamber of Commerce, and tour nuclear facilities with the UK Department for Business and Trade.

“Alberta’s government is committed to securing an affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy future,” Neudorf said ahead of the trip. “Nuclear technology has significant potential, and international gatherings like this provide a valuable opportunity to learn from global partners and explore how it could fit into Alberta’s energy system.”

The provincial government has been increasingly examining nuclear power as part of its broader energy diversification strategy, as demand for electricity continues to rise.
