Alberta leads national job gains, adds nearly 42,000 full-time positions

Calgary (Rajeev Sharma): Alberta continues to outperform the rest of the country on the employment front, recording a sharp rise in full-time jobs despite ongoing global economic uncertainty, according to Jobs, Economy, Trade and Immigration Minister Joseph Schow.

In a statement released Friday, Schow said the province added 41,800 full-time jobs in the most recent month, underscoring Alberta’s ability to weather broader economic headwinds that are affecting other parts of Canada.

The minister credited the gains to the provincial government’s focus on economic diversification and investment attraction, noting that Alberta has posted the strongest employment growth in the country over the past year. Employment in the province rose by 3.4 per cent during that period, far exceeding the national average increase of 0.6 per cent.

Schow said the uptick in jobs is particularly significant as Alberta continues to see rapid population growth, helping to balance labour market pressures and create opportunities for newcomers and long-time residents alike.

Beyond job creation, the province is also performing strongly on other key economic indicators, including productivity, average weekly wages and unemployment levels, which remain below the national rate. These factors, Schow said, reinforce Alberta’s reputation as an attractive place to live, work and raise a family.

Looking ahead, the minister expressed confidence that employment growth will continue as more businesses choose Alberta for expansion and investment. He pointed to competitive tax rates, a skilled workforce and the province’s growing international profile as advantages that are drawing companies and opening doors to new markets.

Schow added that the government remains committed to supporting job creators and strengthening Alberta’s economy both domestically and globally.
