Calgary (Rajeev Sharma): Alberta is set to welcome some of the best young volleyball talent from across the Americas as the province prepares to host the Men’s U21 Pan American Cup from August 5–10.
Teams from North, Central, South America, and the Caribbean will compete in this high-stakes tournament, which also serves as the final stop before the 2025 U21 World Championships. With its deep roots in the sport, being the first country outside the United States to play volleyball, Canada, and Alberta in particular, provide a fitting stage for the international event.
Alberta’s Investment in Sports
The Alberta government has invested $200,000 through the Major Sport Events grant program to support the tournament. The event is projected to draw more than 4,500 spectators and generate an estimated $2.4 million in economic activity, as visitors dine, shop, and stay locally.
“I’m happy to welcome athletes and officials from across the Americas and the Caribbean to our beautiful province. We are proud to host this championship and give an exciting opportunity for our athletes to show their Alberta spirit on their home court,” said Andrew Boitchenko, Minister of Tourism and Sport.
Homegrown Talent on Team Canada
Three Alberta athletes will represent Canada: Grant Hill from Calgary, Owen Harris, and Kale Fisher from Edmonton. Since the tournament’s launch in 2011, Team Canada has consistently ranked among the top three, making this year’s competition especially exciting for local fans.
A Global Stage in Alberta
“Volleyball Canada is very excited to bring some of the top young volleyball athletes to Calgary and to the Tsuut’ina Nation. The event will be the final preparation opportunity for teams for the U21 Men’s World Championships, so fans can be assured of a top-level competition,” said Alan Ahac, director of Indoor International Events, Volleyball Canada.
With world-class competition, strong local representation, and significant economic impact, the Men’s U21 Pan American Cup is set to serve as a major highlight in Alberta’s sporting calendar.
