Calgary (Rajeev Sharma): Alberta doctors have voted 76 per cent in favour of a new agreement, signalling strong support among physicians for the agreement reached between doctors and the provincial government.
According to the Alberta government, more physicians are choosing to practise in the province. Since the government formed in 2019, more than 3,180 net doctors have registered in Alberta, bringing the total number of registered physicians to 14,661.
The government said the new agreement with the Alberta Medical Association (AMA) is another step toward making Alberta a province where physicians can practise, build their careers and establish long-term roots. The agreement is also intended to support efforts to improve access to health care for Albertans, with the government emphasizing the goal of ensuring patients receive the care they need, when and where they need it.
The 76 per cent approval marks a significant vote of support from Alberta physicians and comes as the province continues efforts to attract and retain doctors and strengthen health-care services.
