New Delhi (National Times): In a landmark development, air passenger traffic between India and Singapore has soared to an all-time high, crossing the 5 million mark in 2024, according to data released by Singapore Changi Airport.
The total traffic reached 5.5 million passengers, representing a 12% year-on-year increase and a 15% rise over pre-pandemic levels recorded in 2019. India now ranks as Changi Airport’s sixth-largest market.
Currently, six airlines, including Air India, Air India Express, IndiGo, DrukAir, Scoot, and Singapore Airlines, operate approximately 280 weekly flights connecting 16 Indian cities to Singapore. Major Indian metros such as Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad are part of the existing network.
Changi Airport, one of Southeast Asia’s most connected hubs to India, plans to expand its footprint by targeting new Indian destinations such as Jaipur, Lucknow, Surat, and Chandigarh in the near to mid-term.
The Changi Airport Group expressed optimism for continued growth, citing robust airline partnerships and increasing travel demand. As of March 2025, Changi serves 100 airlines with 7,400 weekly scheduled flights to over 160 cities across 49 countries.
The airport also recently added routes to Phu Quoc (Vietnam), Dali (China), and will soon launch a direct connection to Vienna (Austria).
With passenger volumes hitting 67.7 million in 2024, Changi was named the World’s Best Airport 2025 at the Skytrax World Airport Awards in Madrid—marking its 13th win in the award’s history.
Yam Kum Weng, CEO of Changi Airport Group, stated, “It is gratifying to receive this recognition. We remain committed to delivering exceptional experiences as air travel continues to grow.”
