Air India Resumes Direct Delhi–Rome Flights After Six Years

New Delhi (Gurpreet Singh): After nearly six years, Air India has restarted its non-stop service between Delhi and Rome, strengthening its presence in Europe and reconnecting the two capitals.

The airline launched a four-times-a-week direct service to Rome Fiumicino Airport, making Rome its eighth destination in mainland Europe and second in Italy after Milan.

Flight AI123 departed Delhi at 1:32 pm on March 25 and landed in Rome the same evening. The return flight reached Delhi the next morning. The inaugural flight was welcomed by officials, including India’s Ambassador to Italy Vani Rao, along with airport authorities and airline representatives.

Boost to India–Europe Connectivity

Air India said the move is driven by growing demand for travel between India and Europe, both for business and tourism. The airline also aims to enhance connectivity via its Delhi hub, offering seamless links to destinations across South Asia and Southeast Asia.

Strategic Importance of Italy

Officials highlighted that Italy remains a key partner for India in trade, tourism, and cultural exchange. Bilateral trade crossed $14 billion in 2025, with strong collaboration in sectors such as engineering, automotive, fashion, and design. Additionally, Italy hosts a significant Indian diaspora of over 200,000 people, contributing to consistent travel demand.

Flight Details

The route will operate four times a week — Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays — using the Boeing 787-8. The aircraft offers both business and economy class, with fully flat beds available in business class.
