Air India and IndiGo Planes Brush Wingtips in Minor Ground Incident at Mumbai Airport

Mumbai (Rajeev Sharma): Two passenger aircraft operated by Air India and IndiGo were involved in a minor ground incident at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport on Tuesday, when the wingtips of the two planes came into contact during routine taxiing operations. Authorities confirmed that no passengers or crew members were injured and all those on board are safe.

The incident occurred while Air India flight AI 2732, scheduled to fly to Coimbatore, was stationary on a taxiway awaiting take-off clearance. At the same time, IndiGo flight 6E 791, which had just arrived from Hyderabad, was taxiing towards its designated parking bay when the wingtip contact took place.

In a statement, IndiGo said that one of its aircraft made wingtip contact with another airline’s aircraft during taxiing. The airline added that after the aircraft was safely parked, all passengers were disembarked without any issue. IndiGo confirmed that the aircraft has been taken up for mandatory maintenance checks and that the relevant aviation authorities have been informed. An investigation into the incident is currently underway.

Air India also confirmed the occurrence, stating that its aircraft sustained minor wingtip damage while waiting on the taxiway prior to departure. As a precautionary measure, the aircraft has been withdrawn from service and will undergo detailed technical inspections. The airline said passengers were safely escorted off the plane and alternate travel arrangements are being made to ensure minimal inconvenience.

Airport officials said flight operations at Mumbai airport continued as usual, although minor delays were reported for the affected flights due to safety checks and passenger handling procedures.
