Chandigarh, September 24, 2025: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Wednesday underscored the state government’s firm commitment to maintaining law and order, directing Commissioners of Police and Senior Superintendents of Police to adopt a zero-tolerance approach against crime and criminal elements.
During a virtual meeting with senior police officials, Mann emphasized the need for comprehensive safety arrangements during the upcoming festive season, highlighting the risks posed by overcrowding, theft, snatching, and attempts by anti-social or anti-national elements to exploit large gatherings.
The Chief Minister stressed proactive coordination at all levels to ensure uninterrupted traffic flow, effective crowd management, and preparedness for fire hazards, medical emergencies, and other contingencies. He urged citizens to uphold communal harmony and cautioned against being misled by distorted information circulating in certain areas.
Bhagwant Singh Mann also raised concerns over radical and inflammatory content on social media, warning that it could provoke communal or political tensions. He instructed police officials to monitor online platforms closely and refer such content to cybercrime units for strict action.
The CM emphasized community policing, urging police to resolve minor disputes at the SHO level and launch campaigns promoting peace and brotherhood across Punjab. This, he noted, would reduce unnecessary litigation and allow law enforcement to focus on core duties.
Lauding the Punjab Police for their efforts against drug trafficking under the “Yudh Nasheyan De Virudh” campaign and their strong action against gangsters, Mann reiterated the importance of vigilance given Punjab’s status as a border state facing persistent security threats. He expressed confidence that the police would continue to uphold their legacy of maintaining peace and tackling anti-national elements effectively.
Chief Secretary K.A.P. Sinha, Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav, and other senior officials were present during the meeting.
