Leh (Ladakh), January 2, 2025: The Ladakh administration on Friday announced that filmmaker Aditya Dhar’s blockbuster Dhurandhar has been declared tax-free in the Union Territory, citing the film’s extensive shooting across the region and its contribution to promoting Ladakh’s natural beauty.
Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta said the decision reflects the administration’s efforts to project Ladakh as a preferred destination for film production and tourism. He added that the Union Territory is in the process of formulating a new film policy and assured full institutional support to filmmakers choosing Ladakh as a shooting location.
In a post on X, the Office of the Lieutenant Governor said the move underlines Ladakh’s commitment to encouraging cinema that showcases the region’s landscapes and culture. It noted that Dhurandhar, which was shot at multiple locations across Ladakh, has played a significant role in highlighting the region’s cinematic appeal.
The announcement comes amid the film’s remarkable box office performance. Dhurandhar has created history by becoming the first Hindi film to cross the ₹100-crore mark in its fourth week of release. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh described the achievement as unprecedented, pointing out that the film has maintained strong momentum well beyond its opening weeks.
During its fourth week alone, the film reportedly collected ₹115.70 crore, making it the highest fourth-week collection ever recorded for a Hindi film. By comparison, Pushpa 2 (Hindi) earned ₹57.95 crore in the same period, while Chhaava and Stree 2 collected ₹43.98 crore and ₹37.75 crore respectively.
Dhurandhar has also emerged as the only Hindi film to register double-digit daily collections for 28 consecutive days, underlining its sustained audience pull. Directed by Aditya Dhar, the film stars Ranveer Singh in the lead role, alongside Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal and R Madhavan in key roles.
Released on December 5, the first instalment of the two-part film traces a decade-long Indian intelligence operation, focusing on an undercover agent navigating Karachi’s criminal and political underworld. The film has gone on to become one of the biggest Hindi releases of 2025.
