Kabul (Rajeev Sharma): In a sharp escalation of cross-border hostilities, Afghanistan’s armed forces carried out retaliatory attacks late Saturday night on Pakistani military positions along the Durand Line. The Afghan Ministry of Defence confirmed the action, stating it was a direct response to repeated airspace violations and recent strikes on Afghan territory.
The overnight operation, which reportedly concluded around midnight, was described by the Afghan Defence Ministry as a “successful retaliatory move” aimed at defending national sovereignty.
In a public statement shared via X (formerly Twitter), the ministry said: “Tonight, our armed forces conducted a successful retaliatory operation against the centres of Pakistani forces along the Durand Line, following multiple violations of Afghanistan’s sovereignty by the Pakistani military and recent airstrikes on Afghan soil.”
Warning of Future Consequences
The Afghan government has signaled a firm stance against any further incursions, emphasizing its forces are ready to take “decisive action” should future violations occur.
“If the Pakistani side repeats its aggression, our forces are fully prepared to defend our borders and respond forcefully,” the ministry warned.
Rising Diplomatic Strain
Tensions between Kabul and Islamabad have worsened in recent weeks, particularly after Pakistani airstrikes reportedly hit areas within Kabul and Paktika provinces, an act Afghanistan’s Defence Ministry labeled as “violent and without precedent” in the shared history of the two nations.
