Gandhinagar, September 16, 2025 — A Gandhinagar court has summoned journalists Abhisar Sharma and Raju Parulekar to appear on September 20 in connection with criminal defamation complaints filed by the Adani Group.
The conglomerate alleged that Sharma, a YouTuber, and Parulekar, a blogger, circulated defamatory claims intended to tarnish its image. The Court of Judicial Magistrate First Class, PS Adalaj, issued notices directing both to appear, according to an official release by Adani.
The complaints were filed under Sections 356 (1, 2, and 3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, which correspond to Sections 499, 500, and 501 of the Indian Penal Code. Adani cited Sharma’s YouTube video posted on August 18, 2025, which alleged that thousands of bighas of land in Assam had been allotted to the company as political favours. It also pointed to Parulekar’s tweets and retweets since January 2025 accusing the group of land grabs, scams, and undue advantages.
Rejecting these charges as “false and misleading,” Adani stressed that the Gauhati High Court order dated August 12, 2025, mentioned by the respondents did not refer to the conglomerate. The company further clarified that Mahabal Cement Pvt Ltd central to the case has no affiliation with Adani.
The evidence presented includes Sharma’s video and transcript, Parulekar’s social media content, the Gauhati High Court order, and supporting records. If the matter proceeds to trial, both journalists could face up to two years in prison, fines, or both.
