ABVP Secures Panjab University Student Council; Gauravveer Sohal Chosen as President

Chandigarh, September 3, 2025 — The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has registered a significant victory in the Panjab University Campus Students’ Council (PUCSC) elections, with Gauravveer Sohal elected as president. This result marks a rare achievement for the party, which had not held the top seat in recent years.

Counting trends consistently showed Sohal in the lead, sparking celebrations among ABVP supporters at the university gymnasium even before the final announcement was made.

The outcome of other key posts highlighted a mixed mandate. Ashmeet Singh has been elected as vice president, while Abhishek Dagar of the Students Organisation of Panjab University (SOPU) secured the general secretary’s position. Independent candidate Mohit Manderana won the joint secretary’s post, reflecting a diverse choice of leadership across different affiliations.

More than 16,000 students participated in this year’s elections, demonstrating the strong interest in shaping campus leadership. The newly elected representatives will now assume responsibility for guiding student issues and activities in the upcoming academic session.
