New Delhi (Rajeev Sharma): With activist Sonam Wangchuk now under medical care, Cockroach Janata Party chief Abhijeet Dipke has stepped forward to continue the agitation, announcing an indefinite hunger strike and reaffirming that the proposed ‘Chalo Sansad’ march on July 20 will take place as scheduled.
Addressing supporters after Wangchuk’s removal from Jantar Mantar, Dipke accused the authorities of using force against peaceful protesters. He alleged that Wangchuk, who had been fasting for nearly three weeks, was taken away in the early hours despite his fragile health.
Dipke also claimed he was stopped and assaulted while making his way to the protest venue after learning about Wangchuk’s transfer. He described the police action as an attempt to weaken the ongoing campaign but insisted that the movement would continue without interruption.
Declaring that the protest had entered a new phase, Dipke said he would now observe an indefinite fast in solidarity with Wangchuk and in support of the demands raised by the protesters. He appealed to citizens from across the country to join the Parliament march, calling it a peaceful democratic demonstration.
“The movement will not stop because one person has been taken away. We will continue our campaign and the July 20 march will proceed as planned,” Dipke told supporters.
The Cockroach Janata Party has been spearheading protests over alleged irregularities in the NEET examination, demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, a judicial inquiry into the examination process and comprehensive reforms in the country’s competitive examination system.
Meanwhile, Sonam Wangchuk remains admitted to Safdarjung Hospital, where doctors have said he is stable but requires continuous monitoring due to weakness caused by prolonged fasting and dehydration.
Even as Wangchuk undergoes treatment, Dipke has made it clear that the agitation will continue, with party volunteers preparing for the upcoming march to Parliament in what they describe as the next major step in their campaign.
