AAP Sarpanch Jharmal Singh Shot Dead During Wedding Function in Amritsar

Amritsar / Tarn Taran (Bureau): In a shocking incident on Sunday, Jharmal Singh, the sarpanch of village Valtoha in Tarn Taran district and a leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), was shot dead by unidentified assailants while attending a marriage function in Sri Amritsar Sahib.

According to police, the incident occurred in broad daylight at a marriage palace in Amritsar district. The assailants allegedly entered the venue posing as guests and opened fire at Jharmal Singh before fleeing the spot.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital in a critical condition, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Senior police officials reached the scene soon after the incident and launched an investigation. CCTV footage from the marriage venue and nearby areas is being scrutinized, and a case has been registered. No arrests have been made so far.

Family members have stated that Jharmal Singh had earlier received threats, and a complaint had reportedly been lodged with the police. However, officials said the motive is yet to be established, and all angles are being investigated.

The killing has caused shock and grief in the region and sparked concern among political and social circles over the law-and-order situation in Punjab.
