AAP MLA’s Nephew Shot Dead in Jagraon, Assailants Allegedly Threaten Family

Jagraon (Punjab), January 5, 2026 — A 32-year-old man, identified as Gagandeep Singh, nephew of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA from Jagraon Sarbjit Kaur Manuke, was shot dead by unidentified assailants on Monday, triggering shock and outrage in the region.

According to preliminary information, the attackers allegedly displayed brazen behaviour even after the crime. After shooting Gagandeep Singh, they reportedly went to his residence and informed the family that he had been killed and that his body was lying in nearby fields. Family members said the assailants shouted outside the house before fleeing the scene.

Following the information, relatives and villagers rushed to the fields and took the critically injured man to the Civil Hospital in Jagraon, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. Gagandeep Singh, a former kabaddi player, is survived by his wife and three young children.

AAP MLA Sarbjit Kaur Manuke reached the hospital soon after the incident. Expressing grief and anger, she described the killing as an open display of lawlessness. She said such acts only leave families shattered and demanded swift and decisive action against those responsible.

The MLA urged the police administration and the Senior Superintendent of Police to arrest the accused at the earliest. She also called for intensified drives against illegal weapons in the area to prevent further incidents of violence.

Police officials said an investigation has been initiated and statements of family members are being recorded. The motive behind the murder is yet to be ascertained, and further details are awaited as the probe progresses.
