Amritsar (Gurpreet Singh): The Amritsar Commissionerate Police has dismantled two alleged illegal arms supply networks, arrested four suspects, including two juveniles, and seized 16 sophisticated pistols along with seven live cartridges.
According to preliminary findings, the accused were allegedly in contact with a handler based abroad who helped facilitate the delivery of illegal weapons into the region. Investigators suspect the firearms were subsequently distributed among criminal elements through an organised supply chain.
Separate FIRs have been registered at Cantonment and Gate Hakima police stations in Amritsar in connection with the two cases.
Probe underway to trace wider network
Police are continuing their investigation to identify other individuals involved in the alleged arms trade and establish the network’s backward and forward linkages. The probe is expected to focus on tracing the source of the weapons, the role of the alleged foreign-based handler and the intended recipients of the consignments.
The recovery of 16 pistols forms the key seizure in the operation, while the arrest of four suspects has provided investigators with leads to pursue further.
Authorities have not disclosed additional details about the identities of the accused or the specific criminal activities in which the weapons may have been intended for use.
Punjab Police said it remains committed to cracking down on illegal arms trafficking and disrupting networks that supply weapons to criminal groups.
Further details are expected as the investigation progresses.
