Calgary (Rajeev Sharma): Dewangi Kode organised a special community dialogue bringing together community leaders and City of Calgary officials to discuss Diwali fireworks safety, new municipal bylaws and enforcement guidelines.

Popular South Asian social media influencer, singer and youth leader Aditi Patil, along with representatives of the Madhyam Indo-Canadian Heritage Society, Pamir Canadian Multiculturalism Council and Universal Roots Foundation, participated in the discussion.

The meeting provided an opportunity for community leaders and dignitaries to raise questions, share concerns and seek clarification on fireworks regulations and enforcement procedures. Participants discussed the importance of public awareness and compliance with municipal bylaws to help ensure safer Diwali celebrations across Calgary.

The dialogue also created a platform for cultural organisations and community representatives to communicate residents’ concerns directly to city officials. Participants highlighted the value of cooperation between municipal authorities and community groups in helping residents understand applicable regulations while celebrating their cultural traditions.

National Times Media Group was also part of the community initiative and will share information about Diwali fireworks safety, municipal bylaws and responsible celebrations through its media platforms to help raise public awareness.

As Diwali approaches, Calgary residents are encouraged to check the City of Calgary’s current fireworks bylaws and official safety guidelines before making any plans involving fireworks. Never assume fireworks are permitted, and do not use them where they are prohibited. Follow all applicable rules, keep children at a safe distance, and prioritise the safety of neighbours, pets, emergency responders and the wider community. A safe Diwali begins with awareness, responsible choices and respect for everyone.
