Yudh Nashean Virudh: Nasha Mukti Morcha Deploys Members At 150 Drug Hotspots Across Doaba

Chandigarh (Gurpreet Singh): In a final offensive against drug abuse in Punjab under the government’s Yudh Nashean Virudh, the Nasha Mukti Morcha (NMM) has launched a crackdown against drugs by deploying its members at 150 identified hotspots across Doaba, intensifying the focus on locations vulnerable to drug-related activities.

The objective is to free these locations of all unlawful activities. After various meetings with SSPs, NMM members have been tasked to work in coordination with the police across Kapurthala, Nawanshahr, Jalandhar Urban and Rural, and Hoshiarpur. The aim is to strengthen ground-level monitoring, assess the situation at identified hotspots and ensure sustained action against the drug menace.

Atin Agnihotri, Doaba In-Charge of the Nasha Mukti Morcha, is coordinating the deployment of NMM members, who are working alongside the concerned SPs, DSPs and SHOs during visits to identified locations. The exercise focuses on monitoring ground realities, understanding local concerns and identifying places that require attention so that no place is left outside the purview of the administration.

The initiative is a push against substance abuse, taking the fight directly to identified hotspots through close police-people coordination. Rather than relying solely on periodic reviews, the deployment aims to ensure a visible presence on the ground and improve the flow of relevant information between community representatives and law enforcement agencies.

The meetings with senior police officers and personnel at the police station level have provided a framework for coordinated engagement across the four districts. The involvement of officers at all levels, from SSPs to SHOs, is intended to ensure that the initiative is connected to the police machinery at every relevant level, enabling local concerns to be communicated to the appropriate authorities.

The identified hotspots across Doaba will remain under focus as part of this coordinated effort against drug abuse. By combining local engagement with police-led intervention, the initiative aims to strengthen surveillance of vulnerable locations, facilitate the sharing of actionable information and help authorities respond more effectively to drug-related activities.

The campaign also focuses on public participation in the fight against drugs. Community representatives can play an important role by bringing local concerns to the attention of the police and administration, encouraging residents to stand against the drug menace. Such participation complements enforcement measures and helps build a broader social response to the problem.

The intensified drive contributes to the broader objectives of Bhagwant Mann Government’s Yudh Nashean Virudh to combat drug trafficking, curb the availability of drugs and advance the mission of a drug-free Punjab.

With NMM members deployed at identified hotspots and working alongside police officers across Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Nawanshahr and Hoshiarpur, the focus is now on translating decisions taken at meetings into sustained action on the ground.

The message behind the offensive is clear: the fight against drugs must reach the very locations where the problem persists, with law enforcement and community representatives working together to strengthen the response and safeguard Punjab’s future.
