Amritsar (Gurpreet Singh): Counter Intelligence in Amritsar has arrested four accused and seized 10 kg of heroin while busting an alleged narcotics smuggling network operating in Punjab, police said.
Preliminary investigations have indicated that the accused were allegedly in contact with foreign-based smugglers to receive and distribute heroin consignments across the state.
An FIR has been registered at the State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) police station in Amritsar in connection with the case.
Investigators are now working to establish the network’s forward and backward linkages, identify other individuals suspected of involvement and determine the extent of the alleged cross-border drug trafficking operation.
The ongoing probe aims to uncover the source of the seized heroin, trace its intended recipients and identify others who may have played a role in the smuggling network.
Punjab Police reiterated its commitment to tackling drug trafficking and dismantling organised narcotics networks as part of efforts to make the state drug-free.
Further details are expected as the investigation progresses.
