Amritsar (Gurpreet Singh): In a major operation against drug trafficking and illegal weapons, Amritsar Commissionerate Police has dismantled five suspected smuggling networks and arrested 10 people, recovering heroin, opium, firearms, ammunition, cash and a drone.
According to Punjab Police, the operation resulted in the seizure of 4.409 kg of heroin, 500 grams of opium, six pistols, 12 live cartridges, ₹12.90 lakh in suspected drug money and one drone.
Five Cases Registered
Preliminary investigations suggest that the arrested individuals were allegedly involved in supplying narcotics and illegal weapons. Police have registered five separate FIRs in connection with the cases.
Investigators are now working to establish the networks’ wider connections, including the sources from which the contraband and weapons were obtained and the intended recipients of the supplies.
Probe Underway to Identify Wider Network
The police are continuing their investigation to identify other individuals who may be linked to the suspected trafficking operations. Officials are also examining the networks’ backward and forward linkages to determine the extent of their activities.
The latest action forms part of Punjab Police’s ongoing efforts to curb the circulation of illegal firearms and narcotics in the state.
Reiterating its commitment to tackling organised drug trafficking and illegal arms supply, Punjab Police said it would continue taking action against such networks to strengthen public safety and work towards a drug-free Punjab.
