Dhruv Rathee’s Reported Detention in Gurugram Draws Attention Amid Delhi Protest Restrictions

GURUGRAM (Balwinder Singh): Reports that YouTuber Dhruv Rathee was detained by police in Gurugram at approximately 8 am have emerged as authorities in Delhi prepare for a proposed demonstration by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) at Jantar Mantar. The circumstances surrounding the reported police action remain unclear, with no official explanation available so far.

The development comes at a time when security has been tightened across the national capital ahead of the planned gathering, which centres on demands concerning Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

However, there is currently no confirmed evidence linking Rathee’s reported detention to the proposed demonstration.

Delhi Police Enforce Restrictions Ahead of Protest

Authorities have denied permission for the CJP gathering, citing public safety concerns and alleged non-compliance with established protest guidelines.

Delhi Police Joint Commissioner Nupur Prasad has stated that applications to hold demonstrations or other public programmes at Jantar Mantar must generally be submitted at least 10 days before the scheduled event.

Security personnel have been deployed at key locations, while barricades and other restrictions have been introduced to prevent unauthorised gatherings. Reports have also indicated that police have detained individuals amid preparations for the proposed protest.

The measures have placed the handling of public demonstrations in the spotlight as authorities seek to maintain order across the capital.

Questions Remain Over Police Action Against YouTuber

Rathee, who has built a substantial online following through videos discussing politics, governance and current affairs, was reportedly taken into custody early Saturday morning.

Details about the circumstances of the incident have not been established. It remains unknown whether the reported action relates to a complaint, an ongoing investigation or another matter.

There has also been no verified information confirming whether Rathee was formally arrested or taken to a police facility for questioning.

Given the lack of an official account, the precise nature of the incident remains uncertain.

Official Statement Awaited

The reported detention has attracted attention because of its timing, but the coincidence with the planned CJP protest does not establish a connection between the two events.

Confirmation from Gurugram Police would be necessary to clarify the reason for the reported action and whether any legal proceedings have been initiated.

Meanwhile, Delhi Police continue to oversee security arrangements around Jantar Mantar and other sensitive locations. Further developments in both matters are awaited.
